Using ROS to Teach Undergraduate Robotics Courses
About the tutorial:
This hands-on tutorial will discuss how ROS is being used to teach a two-sequence set of upper-level undergraduate robotics courses at Clarkson University: one focusing on mobile robotics, the other on robot manipulators. A Clarkson developed robotics kit with readily available parts common to each course will be introduced and participants will learn via brief hands-on exercises how course concepts are simulated using ROS and then implemented in real-time using ROS and embedded BeagleBone® Blue hardware. Topics explored will include:
(1) how to develop custom robot models and environments,
(2) how to implement basic robot control algorithms for simple mobile robots and robot manipulators based on a reconfigurable kit of parts, and
(3) how these concepts extend to robotic systems the “real” (non-academic) world.
